The Enthronement of the New Metropolitan
of Cape Town

On
Sunday, February 13, 2000, took place the enthronement of His Eminence
Sergios, Metropolitan of Cape Town (Kalis Elpidos) at St. George's
Cathedral in Cape Town, South Africa. At the enthronement service,
His Beatitude Petros VII, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All
Africa was represented by His Eminence Ioannis, Metropolitan of
Johannesburg and Pretoria. Among those who were present, were members
of the Greek Community, officials of the civil authorities, representatives
of various Christian denominations and many faithful.
The new Metropolitan of Cape Town, His Eminence Sergios Kykkotis was born in Cyprus in 1967. After his graduation from the secondary school he became member of the Holy Monastery of Theotokos, Kykkos brotherhood. In 1986 he was ordained as deacon, in 1996 as priest and received the rank of Archimandrite from His Beatitude Chrysostomos, Archbishop of Cyprus. He studied Theology at the University of Athens. During his studies he served the Archbishopric of Athens. He became a member of the Alexandrian Clergy in 1997 and was appointed as a parish priest in Port Elizabeth, South Africa position which he held until his election as Metropolitan. On November 23, 1999 was elected as Metropolitan of Cape Town by the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa and was consecrated as Bishop in November 27, by His Beatitude at the Patriarchal Church of St. Sabba in Alexandria. His Eminence Sergios succeeded Metropolitan Pavlos who passed away in January 1999. From
