Metropolitan Paulos of Kyrenia
|

Metropolitan Paulos was born on November 21, 1945, in Larnaca. He studied in the English school in Cyprus's Gymnasium. From 1968 until 1972, he studied in the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens. After his return to Cyprus, he worked as a preacher and catechizer in the Archdiocese. At this same time, he taught in the Seminary of the "Apostle Barnabas." In 1980, he was ordained a deacon, on November 4, 1981, a presbyter with elevation to archimandrite. He was the dean of the Church of the Apostle Barnabas. In 1985, he received the degree of doctor of philosophy from Oxford University for his work the "Eucharistic Theology of Nicholas Cabasilas." On October 23, 1988, he was appointed hegumens of the Maheras Monastery. Since November 23, 1993, he was the protosyngellos of the Metropolitanate of Kyrenia. On April 5, 1994, he was elected as Metropolitan of Kyrenia. On April 10, 1994, his episcopal consecration took place. Metropolitan Paulos was a representative of the Church of Cyprus at many international conferences. His name day was June 29. Sergii
