Psalms
and Prayers
By Archimandrite Laurence Mancuso

From the
beginning of Christianity, the psalms have been the book of
prayer of the Christian church par excellence. Throughout
the ages they have nourished the inner life as well as the
outward conduct not only of ascetics but of Christians in
general and their efficacy is certainly not to be doubted,
therefore, even for today. The power of the Holy Spirit, then,
is manifestly active in the world when scripture, especially
the psalms, are prayed. It is with this in mind that we off
er this new edition of the psalms in the format used by the
earliest of monastics in the Egyptian desert centuries ago,
confident that its use will once again provide not only a
scriptural basis for the prayer of those who seek growth in
spiritual life and understanding, but an incentive toward
a very practical and particular approach to daily piety as
well. The thousands of provocative phrases of the psalms have
been used to allay temptations, to increase determined devotion,
and in general to raise the level of spirituality in all who
have prayed them. |

The
Seven Sacraments of the Greek Orthodox Church
By Rev. Philip G. Gialopsos

Sixth
Edition, Paperback (2004)

As the
spiritual advisor to the students of the Eastern Orthodox
Faith at Cornell University
and Ithaca College, members of the G.O.Y.A. and Sunday School
Teachers, Fr. Philip was asked many times to provide them
with a pamphlet containing all Seven Sacraments of our Church
in the English Language. The desire of our young adults and
youth encouraged him to make an effort, and he wrote a pamphlet
in 1962, briefly containing the Seven Sacraments of the Greek
Orthdodox Church. In the year 1970, he wrote the second edition
in the form of a booklet, the third edition in the form of
a book and the fifth edition in an updated and revised form.
He attempted to bring out what our Church has taught for centuries
about the Sacraments. He has used simple theological terms
in order to make this material easily understood by the readers,
both youth and adult, who may not have extended theological
knowledge. By using the Holy Scriptures together with the
contents of this book, he believed that one could obtain a
better religious knowledge. Since we live in a time when the
spirit of ecumenism and the unity of Christianity is a common
desire in the hearts of many Christians, hebelieved that it
was necessary for us to know the Sacraments, so that we will
be able to make comparisons with the sacramental life as understood
in other churches. Those who read this book will benefit by
it, by becoming more familiar with the Sacraments of the Greek
Orthodox Church, the Mother of Christendom. |

Spiritual
Reflections from the Priest's Desk
By Rev. Philip G. Gialopsos

(2005)

In all
the years of his ministry serving our Church, one of his priorities
was to print a monthly bulletin. The objective of the bulletin
was not only to highlight the events of his community,
but also to provide religious and spiritual education to the
faithful. The subject matter of the religious articles was
taken from the teachings of our Orthodox Church concerning
moral issues, holidays, and teachings from the Bible. They
were condensed due to the limited space of the bulletin and
written in simple terms to be understood by all the faithful,
both young and old. This book is a collection of the short
messages published monthly, some of which appeared in local
newspapers and various religious magazines. The content is
intended to teach the faithful basic Orthodox teachings. |
