Biography

Bishop Vassilios was born on March 1, 1948, in the village of Mandres. In 1960, he was received into the brotherhood of the Monastery of the Apostle Barnabas, where he remained right up until the seizure of this territory by the Turks in 1974.

From 1967 until 1980, he studied in the Seminary of Apostle Barnabas. From 1970 until 1974, he studied in the gymnasium. From 1974 until 1978, he studied in the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens. Since 1978, he has been studying for his doctorate in Freiburg University (Switzerland). At the same time he completed research on the theme: "An Ontological Understanding of the Essence and Energy of God according to Maximos the Confessor" in French.

In 1970, he was ordained a deacon. From 1974 until 1976, he was attached to the academic church of the University of Athens. From 1976 until 1978, he served in the cathedral of Athens. From 1978 until 1981, he served in the Orthodox Center of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Geneva. In 1981, he was ordained a presbyter with an elevation to archimandrite. From 1982 until 1991, he was the protosyngellos of the Metropolitanate of Switzerland. In 1991, he became the chairman of the Department of Inter-Church Ties of the Church of Cyprus. At the same time, he was the dean of the Church of the All Holy Theotokos in Nicosia.

On February 7, 1996, he was elected Vicar Bishop of Trimithous. His episcopal consecration took place on April 28, 1996.
